I was referred to the ENT department by my GP who is excellent by the way as the doctor listens and talks to me like a human being.
I am deaf and my hearing is deteriorating and my GP had diagnosed catarrh or at least something blocking my ear as my ears felt clogged & sore.
Anyway, I did not know which doctor I would see but when I went into the room and saw the doctor, my heart sank as I had seen the doctor before and the doctor wasn't very pleasant then.
I took my mum with me to the appointment and boy am I glad I did.
I could hardly hear the doctor as they made no effort to speak up and the doctor even talked to my mum and not me. I came with a notepad of questions and research I had some but the doctor didn't seem interested in what i had to say. Yes, I know I have nerve deafness but there may have been other contributing factors that may have caused my hearing to deteriorate and I wanted to explore that.
The doctor didn't seem interested. The doctor showed us a model of the ear and talked directly to my mum and not me! By this time, I was extremely distresed and angry and didn't hear what they said.
The doctor has absolutely no idea how to speak to a deaf person and has no bedside manner whatsoever. I came away from that appt very upset and angry.
I would not recommend the doctor - even my mum was furious with them - and I hope I never have to see this doctor again.
I've seen better doctors.
The doctor may have all the credentials etc but the doctor doesn't have any compassion nor the abilty to listen and explore other ideas.
Please don't let me see them again.
"Poor service"
