I visited Qmc with my elderly mother who has had numerous eye problems over the past few years but glaucoma being the main condition for which she is treated. Although the waiting room was virtually empty for the first time ever we still had a wait to see the various health professionals. My mother had been waiting for a year for this appointment and should have been seen in April but there was no one there when she attended to review her eye condition. In that time the pressure has gone up and in fact gone up in the eye she has had glaucoma surgery in. This was an upset and disappointment to us both. The consultant was patronising and brusque to say the least. In all the years she has attended QMC this has never happened. She has been treated with respect and patience by the doctors in all her past appointments. This was a completely different scenario. We unfortunately do not know their name but they upset my mother and myself by their manner. The consultant was impatient and patronising. My mother failed to understand what the consultant was asking her to do with the drops and turned to me in a patronising manner asking if I understood. I hasten to add I didn't have a clue. It was as clear as mud!!! . They then asked if we had any questions which quite frankly didn't dare ask as the consultant was so impatient when we had asked any. I really hope my mothers next appointment is with one of the other caring staff she has been so used to in the past. I can only describe them as having an awful bedside manner. Next time I will say something as its not acceptable behaviour. Please do not even think about this happening again else a serious complaint will be going in.
