"Parotidectomy at Maxillo Facial"

I recently had a Parotidectomy surgery followed by a two night stay on the Florence Nightingale Ward. Overall, the care I have received has been excellent. I wasn't kept waiting long for any of my appointments, and understood very clearly what would happen, and knew what to expect.

The surgery itself was absolutely fine, I was pretty nervous but all the staff that looked after me before and afterwards were incredibly kind and caring and really put you at ease. The nurses on the ward were brilliant and really looked after everybody there so well, they were so patient and kind and would happily help with anything at all.

Now I'm home and recovering, I'm very pleased with how the surgery went. The surgeon and team who did the surgery clearly went above and beyond to ensure that I wouldn't have any unnecessary scarring on my face or neck. When I took the dressing off I cried- not because I was upset- because I was so happy with how it looked and it was so much better than I had expected!

My only small issue is more with the hospital overall and the passing of information/ referrals etc between departments. In the early stages of diagnosis, a referral went missing in the ENT department which took quite alot of chasing to rectify, and I had a few other similar issues where info was not passed between departments. If you are being treated at St Georges, I would just recommend that you keep a note of any relevant information, and phone up to double check that things such as referrals have made their way to the relevant department.

My experience with Maxillo Facial was great overall. I'm very grateful to the team there, the experience I had could very easily have been stressful and difficult, but the excellent care I received there made it an easy and calm event.
