"Couldn't have asked for better care,..."

About: Countess Of Chester Hospital

What I liked

The whole experience.

What could be improved

Slightly increased staff levels on the Ante-natal ward, to provide extra support to new mothers, especially those with babies in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

Anything else?

Throughout my entire pregnancy I experienced complications and spent many weeks on the ante-natal ward and in the day unit. All of the staff were excellent, and made a very stressful time a bit more managable. I was induced and during my 39 hour labour I was looked after brilliantly, even though the midwives were really stretched that weekend due to high numbers of patients. The midwife who eventually delivered my son was fantastic, one of the old school, and so highly experienced and unflappable that she literally saved both my and my sons lives. She stayed with me on the labour ward through the entire night after the delivery as I was very poorly, and was so supportive. My son spent 6 days on the neonatal intensive care unit, and 2 in transitional care on the antenatal ward. The care he received was amazing, as was the support and encouragement from all of the staff, particularly with regards to breast feeding. The only down side was the fact that due to staff shortages, the transitional care team were split between the NICU and the ward, so there were no specialist nurses available to us for a large proportion of the time.

I am extremely grateful to all of the staff who took such great care of me and my son.

All of the wards and units I visited were clean, with friendly staff and acceptable food.Patient careNeonatal unitNeonatalMidwifeCleanlinessFoodStaffing LevelBabiesConsultantsNursing staff
