What I liked

I was referred to A&E to be admitted for surgery to drain an abscess. Although I had to wait a while, when I was seen I was treated very well, and informed of everything that was going on. I have a phobia of needles and this was treated with great care and respect throughout my stay.

I was required to wait as I had been put on the emergency surgery list, but my case was not as serious as others being prioritised. This was entirely fair, and I was kept informed throughout the day as to the progress of my case. Both sets of surgeons who checked on me were very polite and discussed what was going on with me on both occasions. I was at one point given the option to go home and see if things improved themselves, or to continue waiting. I chose to continue waiting and this was fine with the surgeon.

All of the nurses who I saw were very nice, and treated me with excellent levels of care.

What could be improved

The A&E triage nurse was my first point of contact at the hospital and was a little grumpy to say the least! As the first contact for often worried people coming to the hospital this was not good!ReferralsTriageAbscessesPhobiasSurgeryEmergencyPatient careNursing staffSurgeons
