About: Royal Albert Edward Infirmary / Accident and emergency

Was told by my GP to come into A and E due to Gallstone pain- I was in severe discomfort and had been for days, I left it until I could bear the pain no more. I did expect a wait but it was ludicrous, I was in agony.

However, what I wasnt prepared for was the filth and stink and rubbish in the waiting areas- the place was wholly unacceptable, I am on immunosuppresant medivcation so this is really a concern.

There was absolutely no communication from the staff- who I acknowledge were busy but to be 'kept in the loop' would have made us all waiting to see the Doctor slightly happier.

The wait was unbelievable -all night. In the end I gave up, came home- still in pain now.

I felt that the hospital did not care, I felt filthy, and frustrated, after all, I went purely on the GPs advice- It would be a cold day in hell before I use this A and E dept again.

I would like to add that if what I witnessed is common throughout all the NHS, no wonder it is such a mess- staff overworked- people using the dept as a means to sleep off the latest bottle of Vodka, staff having to respond to everyone- even those who should have gone to their GP first, staff trying to keep it all running( they were clearly overworked) I really am concerned about the future of our wonderful NHS.

What a night- one which I shall sadly remember for all the wrong reasons.
