"Literally the worst"

About: Dr Degun & Dr Macaulay

I have been attending this GP service for a few years now, since moving to Basildon. For a start, one of the reception staff is rude to a fault. But most importantly, I have had pernicious anaemia since childhood and require bi-monthly B12 injections. When I joined this surgery they said they would need to check my B12 levels to ensure that I needed the treatment, but they would give me a B12 shot in the meantime.

They scheduled the B12 shot five minutes before the test. I asked the doctor if this should be the other way around and they said it didn't matter. I confirmed with the nurse on the day that this was correct and they ensured me it was okay.

However my results came back with 'abnormally high levels' of B12 and my B12 treatment was cancelled. I became very ill and on returning to the practise was told as my results showed my B12 levels were fine, it was nothing.

Eventually I gave up on this practise and found a private GP at great personal expense. They informed me that taking a B12 test anytime within three years of a B12 shot would show incorrect results.

I feel it is worth mentioning that when I initially arrived, my GP asked me what a B12 injection was and what it was for.

Furthermore, on every visit I am asked my symptoms. On explaiing them I am then asked what I have. I am baffled by this as the reason anyone makes an appointment to the GP is to find out what is wrong with them. (on the occassion mentioned, I again went to a private GP, my issue turned out to be a very large stomach hernia).
