What a shame after having such a wonderful experience last week on ward 29.
Had surgery on my nose booked for 28/11/17 on ward 10.got a phone call the previous day from ENT saying that clinic H pre assessment had forgot to tell me to stop taking blood thinners prior to my operation and wanted to cancel.i told the staff member not to cancel as I had guessed that a problem like this would occur and googled the information several days before.arrived on ward 10 for operation on the 28th,registered, had anethnatist assessment and nurse examination and then the surgeon tried to cancel the operation saying that weren't happy with my medical history,my weight advising me to have bariatric surgery instead and that the septoplasty operation I was having to correct a nasal breathing problem was cosmetic. The surgeon then tried to get the head of department to cancel the operation who did not and the operation went ahead.was it really necessary to embarrass me in front of my family and in earshot of other patients to no real end.to cap it of the surgeon referred to a complaint I had made to the sleep department previously.when I was taken to the surgical ward the same surgeon had another go at my weight.if he had concerns over the surgery the department had weeks beforehand to sort this out and the surgeon could have spoken to the professor first? Then it transpired that the sleep study staff on ward 29 who I praised so much last week hadn't passed on the results of the study to ENT prior to the operation so the professor had to ring them and it looks like I don't have sleep apnea at all.the pre condition of the surgery was to establish if I had sleep apnea but the ENT did not check to see if they had the result, sleep studys did not supply the result and clinic H did not make sure it had been done.thankyou for the operation and the ENT professor for correcting the surgeon but does anyone communicate with each other.
The NHS bleats on about cancelled operations but mine was almost cancelled because you forgot to inform a patient about medication leaving me to second guess your mistake and a surgeon that thinks an operation to improve breathing is cosmetic.if the professor hadn't been there to overrule them an expensive operation would have been wasted.
This could have caused so much unessasery financial waste and as a patient I feel embarrassed and let down again.after my experience last week on ward 29 I really thought that you were starting to get things right.
