"Wonderful care from the whole team"

About: Raigmore Hospital / Trauma & orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I was admitted to Raigmore hospital after sustaining an ankle fracture. Wonderful care from all involved.

Firstly very gentle and respectful ambulance crew. A warm reception from A&E staff, everyone was professional and very attentive. All introduced themselves, ensured they explained what was required, explained options. Plaster room staff were friendly and patient and took wonderful care of me.

When admitted to the ward for ongoing treatment, I met with a really nice consultant, who said welcome and put me at my ease. Followed this up with a consultation and included me as a partner in decisions. Mr Simpson, was really good at teaching his junior clinical team, but including me when explaining the best options and providing a really good rationale for what the clinical plan should be.

Nursing staff in both wards 3a, and 9b, were also very supportive, respectful and shared their knowledge. Theatre staff were welcoming and supportive at a time when you feel a bit sore and nervous. I spent some time with recovery staff who were also professional and respectful.

The whole is experience was very positive. Every member of the Raigmore team involved in my care were so helpful. I also had very positive experience of the portering and hotel services staff too. The clinical areas were very clean. Hand hygiene levels were excellent by all staff in all departments.

Nursing staff on 9b, a gynae ward were really excellent at looking after patients decanted from other clinical specialities. I was really impressed by that.

Hello VR46

Naturally I am very sorry to hear about your ankle fracture but very grateful that you have provided us with such comprehensive feed-back and that you are pleased with your care and indeed your experience of care.

Next year it will be 70th anniversary of the NHS. A lot has changed since then but the founding principles are as important today as they were when it was set up in 1948.

I wish you a speedy recovery.

Thank you for reading my story.

I work for the health service myself and have high expectations with regards to care. I also understand the pressures to deliver these high standards. I was both very grateful for the wonderful care, and very proud of the organisations staff in every dept for delivering the care. It was flawless, communication was excellent. The staff were clearly working very hard, but their attitude and effort never dipped. I noticed that when patients buzzed for attention they never had to wait more than a min or two. I just want the staff involved to know their effort was much appreciated.

Good to hear from you and for your follow up feed-back. Hope you get back to work soon!

Rest assured I passed on your feed-back to the relevant departments and asked them to share with colleagues. Staff do work very hard with often competing pressures but their professionalism shines through.
