"Go to another hospital"

About: Basildon University Hospital

What I liked

The handful of kind hard working staff

What could be improved

The long wait to be triaged then another long wait for a doctor

A & E waiting room- freezing cold, hard chairs, awfully dirty toilets

Elderly care on the ward - disgraceful treatment of the elderly patiences on the ward

More staff

Anything else?

A&E 1.5 hours waiting to be triaged followed by a 2.5 hour wait for a medic doctor when I had already been reffered by GP to a surgeon and they were "expecting me"

Admitted to SAU, clean and friendly staff. Moved to Linford ward. Very under staffed, elderly paitents left for hours shouting for a nurse to help them to the toilet resulting in them wetting the bed then shouting for hours that they were in a wet bed. People screaming in pain being left. Ward stunk of urine. I waited from 6am until 8.15am in alot of pain for pain relief after asking several times and being told they were to busy. Buzzers clearly being ignored. I buzzed for the nurse and after waiting 25 minutes with it bleeping I got up and went to hunt down a nurse but no one to be found. It wasn't even hand over time ! Some of the staff were brilliant and were clearly doing there best but others were just not interested. I witnessed an elderly paitent being shouted at for not being able to get up to the toilet by themself. My whole time on the ward was highly stressful. Laying there ill, hearing people screaming in pain and being ignored was traumatic. It was like a third world country hospital. Disgraceful. Someone needs to look into the running of that ward before there is a death due to lack of care.TriageCleanlinessOpening hoursStaffing LevelToiletsDoctorsSurgeonsDeath and dyingPatient careTemperatureElderly care
