"1st Class Hospital"

About: Glenfield Hospital

I chose Glenfield hospital because it is recognised as being one of the the best Heart hospitals in the country, It was my choice to travel a two hour single journey, rather than have my Aortic valve replacement at my closest hospital. Oh my goodness did I make the correct decision, everything happened quite quickly, from when I found out that I had severe aortic stenosis, It was crytitally urgent that my surgery done ASAP. From when I first contacted the hospital the admin staff were so caring yet professional, and would ring me to let me know what was happening, rather than having to wait for a letter through the post, I would like to say a massive Thank you to those who arranged my appointments with the consultant. The truely wonderful Surgeon, who saved my life, took a chance on me when the odds were not good, but I was aware of the risks and entrusted my life in their hands, and of my God did they make a good job of my surgery, I didn't think it was an option for me to have a tissue valve, because of treatment I had received years ago for breast cancer, due to radiotherapy, but I ended up able to have one, I did not need a pacemaker, and my surgery could not have gone better, and I don't have to take Warfarin either. I spent 24hrs in the intensive care suite, my daughter informed me just how amazing, caring and informative they were, every member of staff at this hospital explain themselves in a way you understand, no jargon. All the staff on Ward 31 are real life Angels, nothing is ever too much trouble, the nurses are ran off their feet but always are smiley and chatty, and attentive. The food is tasty and although you may not always feel like eating, I tried every day to eat and drink and I feel that this helped me recover quickly, 7 nights I stayed at the Glenfield hospital, a mix of on the ward and in a private room and although it's never nice to have to go into hospital, I can honestly say that I was made to feel very welcome and cared for like I was staying in a private hospital. Well done to everybody,Gold Stars all the way, a credit to their profession!
