"Professionals don't show up"

About: NHS Western Isles

(as a service user),

I've been at various planned events in Stornoway for mums and babies and the health staff due to attend never show up. That includes the baby massage sessions and breastfeeding group. It's not good when you are told they will be there for advice and nobody comes. The health visitors are there to deliver the classes but planned speakers never show

Dear Hospital Patient

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on your experience of attending events to support mums and babies.

I have spoken to the Health Visiting team who have advised me that they had been experiencing some issues in the past with outside speakers and had changed the format of their sessions and that there have been no outside speakers at the breastfeeding or baby massage groups since December 2016. The groups are now covered by the health visiting team with no outside speakers.

We very much welcome feedback from our patients, should you feel that you wish to provide us with additional information please feel free to contact me and we will look into this.

Regards

Update posted by Hospital patient (a service user)

Thank you for your response but what you have said is not actually true. I was at a recent meeting of mums where a dietitian was expected to attend to talk about weaning and the 2 dietetic students there said this member of staff would not be coming. Your response is disappointing, especially when you say that there will be no outside speakers from now on. Do other health professionals not think it's a priority to speak to new mothers?
