"On leaving hospital, I didn't feel reassured."

All staff at the queens medical centre were caring, quite busy with some demanding patients but still kind. The time nurses spent with their allocated patients in my opinion were very little and limited.

The sandwich I was given post-op was awful and very dry.

Prior to the operation, my period was due so I asked if I could expect normal flows once the ovaries were removed. The doctor seemed surprised by the question but said yes. In the hrs spent at the hospital after my operation, I had moderate virginal bleeding but less than a period. As i left the hospital, the nurse said the bleeding wasn't expected to worsen although she did not check to see any of my pads.

At midnight, I began to bleed more heavily so I called my GP in the morning who reassured me that this was normal.

My sister, who used to be a nurse on a gynaecology ward then told me that the nurse should have checked my level of blood loss and that I should have been told that i would bleed up to seven days.

I was originally told that I would be in the hospital for 48hrs but infact was discharged the next day.

Whilst it is nice to be at home where it is quieter, I think I would have been mentally and physically more comfortable with a longer stay in the hospital. I am a biology teacher with a reasonable understanding of human anatomy and female endocrinology but I still wanted a reassurance.
