"Disaster at A&E"

About: Whittington Health NHS Trust

I went to the A&E on Monday at 5pm (20/11) with severe neck, shoulder and back pains.

Before even examining me, I was given a cocktail of painkillers that included: Ibuprofen, Paracetamol, codeine and diazepam. No one checked if I had eaten or if these were safe to have on an empty stomach. I had a panic attack and started hyperventilating.

I saw a doctor for less than 5 minutes. The doctor came to the conclusion I had torticollis. Hardly explaining what that even meant. I was left alone on a bed.

About an hour later they told me to go home with the same pills they gave me when I arrived.

When I was trying to gather my belongings, I nearly fainted and almost fell of the bed.

A nurse had to keep me straight in a wheelchair because I was completely blacked out.

I was put on a bed and my blood pressure was checked. My blood pressure had completely dropped. In an attempt to stabilize my blood pressure, I was given a bag of fluids.

Around midnight my blood pressure was back to normal. I was kept overnight.

At 3 am my blood pressure started dropping again. Thanks to the night nurses that kept checking in on me, I finally got something to eat and a cup of tea.

In the morning (7am) when everything was still looking good, they tried to move me to a chair instead of a bed. As soon as I sat down, I blacked out again. I was put back into bed with another bag of fluids, my blood sugar was checked and they gave me some breakfast.

At 12 they send me home, with another prescription.

That brings it to 4: a box of 400mg Ibuprofen, a box of Co-Dydramol, a box of 50mg Tramadol and 6 pills of 5mg Diazepam. I took my medication as prescribed on the box.

The day after I got home, I woke up with a severe headache, chestpains and nausea.

I couldn't keep anything down, not even water. After calling 111, they told me to go to an A&E immediately. I went to Barts hospital this time where I was finally listened to.

The doctor I saw was shocked at the cocktail of pills I was prescribed. What also turned out to be the reason why I was feeling completely miserable.

Prescribing me both Diazepam and Tramadol is incredibly irresponsible.

Never again.
