"Labour story"

About: Royal Oldham Hospital / Maternity

(as a service user),

I went into labor and had reduced movements so went to triage to be checked over. At this point my contractions increased and was already 3-4 cm dilated so moved straight to labour ward.

Discussed options of being induced/Epidural but had to break waters first. Opted for Epidural before Induction to minimise pain but ended up failing down oneside.

They tried manipulating the needle but that didn't work.

Had x 3 painkilling before they decided I needed assisted delivery. I opted for forceps and had an Episiotomy plus x2 internal tears that needed stitching.

Baby ended up with Jaundice and going under the lamp and we both ended up in hospital for 8 days. Everyone was very helpful but was kept waiting for over 2 hours for pain relief and in tears by the time it was received due to computers failing in pharmacy.

The staff although were generally lovely were stretched very thin!

Thank you for taking the time to share the story of your birth experience and of our maternity service. Please accept our apologies for any distress that was caused by a delay in pain relief whilst on the postnatal ward because of a computer error. I have raised your concerns with the postnatal ward manager. In the meantime please contact me directly at the email address below if you wish to discuss anything further.

I am very pleased that you found our maternity team to be very helpful, I will share this with them.

Once again thank you for your feedback
