"Extremely disatisfied with the push and..."

About: Torbay Hospital

What I liked

Only the consultant treated myself and my mother with respect and was very patient to explain her condition and prognosis in full and in laymans terms.

What could be improved

The attitude of the majority of the care assistants and lower grades. ,ost were there just doing the bear minimum their job descriptions required of them and were there purely for a wage. Not a lot of caring or sympathy was experienced

Anything else?

My 85 year old mother was taken to Torbay hospital as an emergency it was suspected she had a stroke and a number of epileptic seizures,

After such extreme brain trauma it was only to be expected that she was very confused and definitely not herself.

The staff having no idea of what my mother was like before this current illness expected to get full and accurate information from my mother who just wanted to go home and made up any story she thought would acheive this end.

I personally voiced my concerns to doctors, therapists and senior nursing staff regarding my mothers mental health and safety once she would be released but it was made quite clear to me that there major concern was getting another bed space.

Upon visiting her on the day of her release she physically attacked me because she thought i was trying to stop her from coming home.

Surely the hospital is not there purely for her physical ability's they are also responsible for their patients mental health.

Unfortunately Torbay hospital have once again proved to be very factory like in getting patients in, minimal treatment, and out ASAP.StrokeWork-related accidentsCommunicationEmergencyMental healthStroke servicesTrauma servicesDoctorsNursing staffTherapistsAttitudeCare assistantsConsultantsProfessionalism
