"Never felt safe"

About: Diana, Princess Of Wales Hospital / Breast surgery

I never felt safe receiving treatment for cancer at Diana Princess of Wales hospital. I was being treated for breast cancer also having chemo in Pink Rose

Mistakes happened often, confusing me with another patient more than once, wrong meds given, not given some meds at all and I didnt know I was supposed to have them so naturally I did not ask despite this it was implied that it was somehow my fault for not requesting them ...how could I if I had no idea they were to be part of my treatment!

Only came to light when I became very ill and then was told I should have been given injections to raise my white cell count.

The injections were still in the fridge at chemo suite as no one gave them to me, when I did get them I was just handed them with no info on how to inject myself, where etc so I asked and it was obvious they thought I was being a nuisance!

I would not let any of my family go to DPOW for cancer care, sadly it is simply not up to scratch and I often felt unsafe. Lack of confidentiality was often an issue.

There are some great staff of course but the whole system leaves a lot to be desired imho

Sorry to have to write this but I feel it is only fair to let others know as being diagnosed with cancer I feel you need to be able to trust the people and system treating you. I feel the issues at the hospital added a great deal of stress to my time having treatment there
