"Baby born at Frimley Park"

About: Frimley Park Hospital / Maternity care

I had a very good experience at Frimley Park.

What stands out as excellent were the staff. It was clear as I moved through the wards from antenatal ( had induction) to labour ward to transitional care and postnatal that the staff really cared about their patients. From the paediatricians we encountered to the cleaning staff their dedication not only to the job, but to me and my baby as people was much appreciated. No matter how busy they were, they never failed to answer questions and take time out to speak with me about my worries. As a first time mum the week I spent, though stressful, was excellent in building my confidence. Everyday I had one on one care to assist me with feeding which for me was invaluable. No matter how "silly" my question it was always answered with care and respect. My dignity was upheld throughout.

The hospital itself is a bit dingy and run down. However, it was unfailing clean. Toilets were very regularly cleaned. Showers and baths in all the wards I attended were surprisingly well maintained, despite being clearly in need of an update. There was someone around 24 hours cleaning. Additionally visitor facilities for hand washing were very well placed, as well as making it clear how important hygiene is.The hospital clearly needs an infusion of cash in order to update the facilities, however I can see no reason to complain, as it was clean throughout my stay.

My only criticism has to do with something that the staff have very little control over. Namely the behaviour of visitors. It would have been good had the staff been stricter about noise. Despite signs advising very clearly that beds were for patients it was not unusual to see visitors lounged on patient beds.Despite signs asking that noise be kept to a minimum phones were blaring on what seemed their loudest settings sometimes all night long! I used my tablet to watch TV, whilst using headphones. However I seemed to be mainly alone in that! I ensured my phone and visitor's phones were on silent. I ensured my bed was not used as a lounge area. I understand this puts staff in a difficult situation. I might suggest a manager play the bad guy, and let the care staff do their jobs with out feeling awkward.

Overall I am very happy indeed with the care I received whilst having my baby here. What I was scared would be a horrible traumatic time was in fact made a smooth, caring, helpful few days where I felt truly cared for and supported. This is exactly what I needed to set me off on my journey to being a mum.

Thank you.
