"Urgent care centre"

About: University Hospital Of North Durham

Saturday. My wife wanted to be checked out for an inflamed eye ASAP so I looked this service up on the web, mainly to see if she needed an appointment. The Durham site linked me to NHS.UK which stated definitely "no appointment needed".

"Sorry" said the Urgent Care receptionist, "we cant see you. You need an appointment. You'll have to go into A&E.

Well I was miffed. I didnt want to add to the A&E waiting times for people in genuine need of their service, and most likely we would be waiting for hours ourselves.

Happy ending however. My wife was seen in about 40 minutes. I didnt even get through the first chapter of my book!
