My partner has a large umbilical hernia and has been told he requires surgery. He has now had three appointments for surgery, the first two were cancelled due to the area being infected, and more recently his surgery was cancelled due to him being "overweight". This last time his surgery was cancelled, he had actually signed his consent form, had the surgical site marked and was changed into a surgical gown, when the surgeon approached him and told him that the surgery would not be carried out that day. He was informed by the surgeon that he should attend his clinic the following Tuesday to discuss what options were available, however, he was contacted on the Monday and told that the appointment was cancelled due to the clinic being overbooked. We are still awaiting a new clinic appointment.
I cannot describe to you the negative impact this had had on my partner, he only leaves the house to go to work, due to being extremely self conscious and embarrassed by his condition. This is affecting his mood and his relationship. We feel that they have been let down by NHS Ayrshire and Arran, and would just like someone to advise us on what can be done.
"Being let down again!"
