"Eye casualty and pharmacy"

About: Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - Queen's Medical Centre Campus / Ear, Nose and Throat

Oh, dear, there is something clearly wrong in Eye Casualty. A straightforward return check up for my daughter resulted in a two and a half wait. One particular nurse was wonderful and very kind and supportive. Top rate. The specialist we eventually saw, was also professional and very understanding. It’s clearly not the medical care received, however the unacceptable wait needs a rethink. Something is clearly amiss with the present structure.

My daughter was advised to return for a follow up check after being seen 2 days earlier and prescribed antibiotics. The care she eventually received was perfectly fine. The issue is the amount of time waiting which needs addressing.

The period we were waiting at Eye Casualty was also compounded with a further 30minute wait at the Pharmacy. There seem to be an awful lot of staff at the Pharmacy, but very little sense of urgency or productivity. In total, a simple check up took 3 and half hours from start to finish. Come on QMC, improvements needed, please.

I’m sorry to hear that you experienced long waits in Eye Casualty and Pharmacy. This isn’t good enough. We have just started a piece of work in Eye Casualty to review our pathways to improve the timeliness of care for patients and their families. One of the areas we are reviewing is how follow-up appointments are managed. We are optimistic that this result in some positive changes.

Your positive comments about care quality have been shared with the Eye Casualty team. Thank you.

All of your comments have been shared with our Eye Casualty and Pharmacy teams and improvements will be made where this is needed.

Yours sincerely,
