"Struggling to see a GP"

About: General practices in Ayrshire & Arran

(as the patient),

I am very unlikely to see a GP unless I book weeks in advance... on-the-day appointments are difficult to get even if I physically go to the practice at 8. 30am... and it will be the receptionist, to whom I must recount my ailments, who will decide if  I get an appointment with GP!

I respond initially to most of the posts and ensure they are passed to the appropriate team whether they are compliments, observations or grumbles. It is important to make sure all issues are addressed and I try to encourage that to happen for all the posts as required.

Dear Romola,

I am sorry it is so difficult for you to get a GP consultation, you really do have my sympathy. On an odd occasion, I too have also had a receptionist 'assess' my fitness to get an appointment and it is really frustrating. GPs are mostly independent contractors and therefore the first point of contact to discuss any problem is your practice manager.

I hope you get satisfaction from them,

best wishes,

Eunice
