I was referred to Saint Mark’s hospital by my GP for suspected IBD.
The hospital was clean. Upon arrival I checked in myself and the reception double checked me in also. I waited under an hour for my appointment because I later learned my profile was having trouble showing on the system so the doctor I was under took their time to create me a new one. The waiting room did seem overcrowded at moments, with more people coming in compared to the volume of people being called for appointments. The staff kept me updated as to my wait whenever I asked. I noticed the staff worked well together and were humorous with patients. Very friendly environment. When my doctor called me in they were very courteous to me and my mum. They took their time with me and let me explain my symptoms while writing them all down. The doctor was so sweet and friendly, reassuring and listened. They explained the further tests I would have to take very well and clearly. We had the odd joke in between. The doctor made us feel very comfortable and at ease. They were thorough, open and asked if I was happy or would like to ask any further questions before proceeding on.
A patient was telling me she has been treated for IBD for the last 20 years at Saint Mark’s and she could not praise them enough to me. My grandmother was also the first person to have an operation at Saint Marks when it first opened. All the amazing things I had heard about this well respected hospital rang true to me upon my visit. We are lucky to have such healthcare not to mention it is the only hospital to specialise entirely on gastro issues. I was highly pleased with my visit and feel very comfortable about the next few visits I will have to make.
