"Absolutely rubbish surgery!!!!"

About: The Ridge Medical Pract.

I called to book an appointment or speak to a Dr on the phone for my 10 month old baby and was told that there is no appointments left. My baby was extremely unwell all night and was having difficulty breathing, burning with a temperature, had a chesty cough and her breathing was very wheezy. I explained this to the receptionist on the phone who simply said 'sorry, no appontments'! I was unable to take her to the hospital because I had no-one to leave my other children with. I seeked over the phone advice from a private GP who came to see her and gave her steroids and an inhaler. I am extremely disappointed with the service this practice provides!!!it is so frustrating to hear 'no appointments' everytime i ring the surgery!!!!Something needs to change because this surgery is clearly doing something wrong!!!!!

Hi

Thank you for your feedback. I can only apologise that this happened to you on this occasion - this should not have happenned as we have a policy in place that any parent requesting foir their baby under 1 year old to be seen will be seen that same day - in all cases, and we make sure that we have capacity to accomodate this as this is essential for us to provide safe care to very young children. I have spoken to our recpetion managers and asked them to reinforce this with the team but it would be helpful if you contacted me directly so I know who you are (not via this public forum!) and then I can identify which receptionist spoke with you and we can ensure that this does not happen again with you or any other patient.

Please be assured that we are working very hard and contsantly adjusting our access system to see as many patients as we possibly can each and every day - but there is a finite limit to what we can do and currently national funding is simply not enough to allow us to see every patient that would like to be seen. This means that we do have to prioritise at times and do have to turn away a number of patients each day whose needs are not urgent, this is not a problem unique to us and is affecting all GP practices in the UK. We have a large clinical team here to look after our patients and we have over 3,000 patients contacts in the surgery each and every week - so we do see an awful of people every week!

Again - I can only apolgise that this happenned to you on this occasion, it should not have done.

Regards
