"A&E Majors / ICU Superb!"

About: Medway Maritime Hospital

My mother had an accident, resulting in multiple facial fractures & swelling of airways, and was brought into A&E majors by ambulance. The staff there were fantastic, keeping us as family informed, but also in dealing with quite extensive injuries - including bringing in an on-call anaesthetist, who I'm sure had far more interesting things to do on a Saturday evening(!), and liaising closely with East Grinstead and Kings about possible transfers. The nurse & anaesthetist were both brilliant at reassuring us, explaining everything clearly, and updating us on what was happening, even after we'd been "sent home".

The staff in ICU, where mum was transferred, were amazing - calling throughout the night with updates, answering endless questions, and allowing us to stay in ICU, even when it wasn't strictly visiting hours. They treated mum with absolutely dignity, humour where it was needed, and round-the-clock care. They also ensured that my elderly dad was well looked after!

Fortunately, mum made a fairly speedy recovery and was off ICU after a week.

After hearing so many bad news stories about Medway, I just wanted to write a review to say how amazing both A&E and ICU staff were (as well as switchboard staff who calmly answered all of my questions!). Without the team at Medway, my mum simply wouldn't be at home making a full recovery today.
