"Most staff dont care"

About: King George Hospital / Maternity

Trying to get through to your main switchboard at King George's is a nightmare. I had to wait 10 minutes and had to pay for the privilege. Its disgusting. My GP referred me to you, and you forgot about me. It was only in my second trimester that I got an appointment which put me and my baby at risk. I never complained because lucky for you, nothing was wrong with the baby or I. But the last straw was your staff. Staff are stubborn and irritated all the time. You can see they're fed up of the patients. Their tones are clipped and they don't let you finish your sentences, they just want you out of the way. I am pregnant and under the care of King George Antenatal. Reception is terrible. I spoke to a receptionist today to try and reschedule two appointments, they spoke over me, wouldn't let me finish my sentences and wouldn't rebook my appointments, they palmed the task off to another colleague and told me to wait for a letter. They treated me as if they thought I was an idiot. Its clear many staff view patients as no more than idiots wasting their time. Why hire people like this who aren't helpful at all? I have zero faith that letter will arrive. My midwife is lovely though. This midwife takes their time to listen and the care they give is amazing. After the horrible attitudes of other staff, this midwife is a breath of fresh air. I have to say, its not the doctors or nurses, its the technicians and admin staff that have the attitude problems. The person who takes bloods, the person who takes the scans... they are both rude and uncaring. The difference between them and my midwife is that my midwife wants to be there. The other staff clearly dont. I know its a tough job, but to be honest, we all have tough jobs. If you don't like it, leave. Taking out your disgruntled views on patients isn't fair. Until you root out the negativity of those staff members, the NHS's reputation will never change. Hire people who actually care, and get rid of the bad apples. There are way too many of them and they don't deserve their salaries. They make bad situations much worse, taint your memories of having your children and when you're ill, they make you feel much worse. They're not the only ones with work pressure, or who are understaffed and stressed at work. Most of us are, no matter who you work for. So pull your socks up and get on with it. It costs nothing to be helpful, proactive and kind. When expecting your first baby and attending your first scan, you dont expect VIP treatment, but you do expect the memory to be pleasant. I'm a very reserved and shy person. I tried to maintain my dignity by not pulling my pants down too far, and the sonographaer yanked them down without my permission. I instinctively pulled them back up slightly and they yanked them down again. They took my baby's measurements without saying a word, and I believed something was wrong. When I heard the heartbeat I was so relieved I cried - for which I was promptly told off. Don't let this continue, its not fair on patients.
