I attended A&E as this is the correct procedure if you have have any spinal problems.

I have in the past 6 years had two lower back operations, one being a blue light from one hospital to another for an emergency operation, whilst I was living in Birmingham, before returning to live in Yorkshire.

I knew that something had gone wrong with my back, previous experience told me that. I was not convinced it was my disc again, but the muscles surrounding the disc. However, I needed to be sure, as I was told by my previous neurosurgeon, to get checked if I felt there was a problem.

The pain was horrendous, my husband had to dress my lower half as I could not physically bend, and I was crying with pain ( I am not a baby and don't normally cry)

I agree I was seen quickly buy a nurse practitioner, who got me to do some reflex tests, I did try to explain even though I had two emergency operations, I was still able to do those tests, so it wasn't a true indication as to what was going on.

I asked for my previous hospital records to be pulled up from the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, that did not happen., and no disrespect to the nurse looking at me, a nurse is not a Doctor or Neurosurgeon, and not really qualified to know if the disc had gone again.

I was sent away away with two tablets.

Luckily I got an emergency appointment with my GP who confirmed with my past operations, going to A&E was the correct procedure.

Like myself they agree it may not be the disc, but it has to be checked, to ensure no serious damage occurs, and they are referring me as a matter of urgency to the spinal unit, to see what is going on with my back.

I would have gladly waited hours to be seen by the spinal unit whilst at the Hospital.

I have been given medication by my GP to try and stem the pain, but from previous experience they only slightly dull the pain, but at least the doctor gave me a proper supply of them, not two tablets !!!

I may be being dramatic here, but there has been occasions when a disc has completely collapsed and the person has been left unable to walk again.

I did not feel that I was being listened to, and felt like a time waster, I am neither.

I got my husband to drive me into work very early, so that that I could do what was required for my residents ( I am a sheltered housing Manager) I could not drive myself.

But I wanted to do my job first, I was not looking for time off.

I do not want to be in Hospital or waste the little resources they have, but I did not feel like I was taken seriously, even with my previous medical record.

I was seen quickly as it was early morning, that is the only positive I can give

I'm not even confident you will publish this, as it is a criticism of the treatment or lack of it whilst attending your Hospital
