"Over stretched A&E"

About: Worthing Hospital / Accident and emergency

I had to go to A&E at the weekend for treatment, the waiting time was three hours and true to form, I waited that long after being triaged. Clearly some didn't need to be there and I needed nursing treatment. Why isn't there a telephone triage, or GP and nurse minor injuries unit? Staff are so busy and polite but clearly frustrated. I was treated well and professionally but the system needs addressing as the culture to go to A&E rather than GP is widespread as GP surgeries aren't open seven days per week. Why? Trust board members should work there regularly to get a flavour of this overstretched service which is too small for the major trust hospital and Worthing's current population.
