"Postoperative complication care"

About: NHS 24 / NHS 24 (111 service) Victoria Hospital / Accident & Emergency Victoria Hospital / Admissions Unit 2 (Emergency Surgical)

(as a service user),

I had to contact NHS 24 for my partner who was suffering from a postoperative complication from surgery he had the previous day.

The call handler Barbara was very helpful and managed to achieve all that she said she would.

We were given clear instructions about what would happen and what we needed to do. We ended up being admitted into hospital through A&E then into Admissions Unit 2 at Victoria Hospital Kirkcaldy.

In A&E the receptionist was very helpful and informative and the triage nurse was efficient and sympathetic.  We had a longish wait but we were given great care and attention.

In AU2 communication was very good, the staff were friendly and made sure we were informed of what was going to happen at regular intervals. Staff Nurse Claire was very professional and knowledgeable at all times. We overheard her speaking with other patients and she showed great skill at giving direct focused health advice as well as continually updating what was happening.

Healthcare Support Worker Lisa was also very attentive and interested, ensuring we were being seen to and also made sure we were fed and watered. Both staff members are a great asset to the team.

Many thanks to you all.

Dear Esmo

Thank you for taking the time to contact Care Opinion. I was sorry to learn your partner experienced post operatives issues and I wish him a full and speedy recovery.

From a positive patient experience, your story was a pleasure to read. I will be sharing this more widely within NHS 24 so that our staff can read your story and be reminded of the important role they play in providing excellent care to patients and their families.

I am sure my colleagues within NHS Fife will also be delighted with your positive comments.

I particularly want to thank you for mentioning 'Barbara', one of our staff members here at NHS 24. Should you wish to provide me with any additional information, then I would be able to identify Barbara and pass your thanks directly to her. I can be contacted on 0141 337 4582 or by email at patientaffairs@nhs24.scot.nhs.uk

I do wish you and your partner well.

With kind regards

Shona

Dear Esmo

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments regarding you and your partner's recent experience.

I was very pleased to learn of your positive feedback and have shared this with the team. In particular it was lovely to read the specific comments regarding two of my team and on their behalf they extend their thanks to you for you taking the time to do this.

It really is heartening when people take the time to tell us how we have made what can be an anxious and upsetting time just that little easier!

We hope your Partner is recovering well,

Kind Regards

Gillian
