As a first time mum I was keen to breastfeed but had no experience of family or friends having breastfed their children.
The support offered by BAMBIS has been second to none, from visiting on the ward, to calling to check in during those first few days at home with baby to offer help if needed. I had some issues initially with a poor latch and a peer supporter visited me at home the same day to check the latch and offer advice.
This support has continued beyond those first few days and weeks, with regular texts at key stages in baby's development which can be hard on a breastfeeding mum. Their Facebook group and regular group meetings at children's centre offer a fantastic support network for mums, with advice on all kinds of breastfeeding related issues.
Since my child was born, BAMBIS have worked hard to build a network of feeding friendly places in the city, removing another barrier for mums. This service is invaluable in helping to normalise breastfeeding and increase the rates of breastfeeding for the city.
