I was recently diagnosed with DCIS, which is a very early form of breast cancer. However, since there was quite a bit a lumpectomy was not recommended. Therefore, I had a mastectomy of the left breast (the right was unaffected). I cannot speak highly enough of my treating consultant and their team. Professional to their finger tips, I was involved in every decision and the rationale behind each was explained clearly to me. My condition was such that it was possible to do an immediate reconstruction (although I lost the nipple, but knew in advance that such would be the case.
It was safer!). That was on 31st October and 12 days on, I am full of the joys, feel really well, and cannot believe how lucky I was to have such an amazing team on my side.
Everyone, from the cleaners, canteen staff, nurses and doctors, could not have been more wonderful. I have had treatment at a private hospital previously for another matter, but apart from a private room and nicer wallpaper, the treatment was certainly no better.
Thank God for our NHS and the amazing people who work there and who give their all.
My heartfelt thanks and that of my family goes to each and every one of them.
