"Awful A&E experience"

About: Russells Hall Hospital

Me and my partner attend this department with my 7 month old daughter who was having breathing difficulties. We were left waiting with her for over 2 hours . At this point I went to the desk to ask how long it would be before she was seen only to be met by an extremely rude nurse who said they had no idea how long we would be waiting. We decided to leave and take our daughter elsewhere as the staff clearly have no idea how to triage patients here. We went back to the desk and told the nurse that we were leaving with her. The nurse then spoke to me with such a disgraceful attitude, even insinuating that I was a bad parent for not waiting there. We were told that safeguarding teams would be contacted, despite us intending to get our daughter cared for elsewhere and the fact that my partner is a doctor meant that she was in safe hands with us.

I am aware that the department is being re developed but it genuinely is like something from a third world country at the moment. We had never seen anything like it, there were people actually collapsing with their relatives screaming for medical help and there were no doctors to be found. I've had issues with another department at this hospital before but hoped that it was a one off bad experience. I can now honestly say that me and my family will never set foot in this hospital again after how we have been spoken to by staff and the genuine lack of care they had for my 7 month old daughter.

We intend to report this experience to Dudley CQC as a matter of urgency.

Thank you for taking the time to post a comment about your experience at our hospital.

We cannot apologise enough for your negative experience and the poor attitude of our staff in A&E. There is not the kind of experience we would wish for any of our patients who are under our care.

We have passed your feedback onto the matron in charge of the department who would welcome the opportunity to look into the issues you have raised in more detail.

If you would like her to do this, please do not hesitate to contact our Patient Advice & Liaison Service (PALS) on Freephone 0800 073 0510 or e-mail dgft.pals@nhs.net
