"Brilliant service received from all staff"

About: Derriford Hospital / Accident and emergency

I recently had an accident where I badly cut my hand and had slightly cut my tendon sheath in my middle finger. I attended A&E late Sunday 5th Nov around 11pm and was tended to by triage within approx 10 min And was given some strong pain relief to see me through my wait in the waiting room as it was very sore. After approx 1-1&1/2 hours I was called by a nurse who took a look at my hand and advised I would need to have a washout and exploration to see the extent of the damage done. I was given a local anaesthetic for this to be carried out and my pain was dealt with very attentively. After a while the nurse called a doctor in who confirmed their suspicions that my tendon sheath had in fact become damaged and I would need further investigation from the plastic surgeons. After thoroughly washing out my laceration and allowing me to stay in the bed whilst they called the plastics team I was seen by a plastic surgeon who explained that I would need an operation to fix the damage. After signing my consent form I was allowed home and within 3 hours of being home I received a call to say my operation would be that day! I was so surprised at how quickly and efficiently I was cared for! Every single member of staff that I saw was thoroughly nice and caring and I felt so looked after through the whole process. The after care is fantastic too! I was seen 4 days after my op to check the wound and re dress, and I have a follow up with the plastics team in 3 weeks! The NHS really do receive too much negative feedback from a lot of individuals on places like social media, and I wanted to take the time to thank everyone involved in my treatment it was truly appreciated. I would appreciate it if this would be forwarded to the relevant team in A&E that were working around this time and date so they know how much they are appreciated not just by myself but by others too and how much there hard work pays off for people like me who end up in a bit of a pickle. Thank you so much to all involved. In the nicest way possible I hope I don’t have to see you all again, but if I do I’ll be confident in knowing I will receive the best care possible. N Bird.

The Matron for the Emergency Department has responded to say:

Thank you so much for taking the time to write such lovely comments about the staff and I shall ensure that your kind words are shared with them.

The staff work very hard extremely hard to provide the best care they can and I am very proud to be the matron for such a lovely ward and to receive your compliment only reinforces this.
