"Worst experience of a Hospital."

About: Princess Alexandra Hospital / General surgery

I was asked to come in for a minor operation at 7 am at 11am I was handed a cup of water and told I can drink this as your now on the list for the afternoon, no explanation nothing. The staff do not keep you updated there are no facilities for families who need to be there to drop you off and pick you up. I have had previous minor surgery at Ely and would rate the hospital 10/10 Harlow hospital a 0. If you have a choice to visit any other hospital do not go to Princess Alexander.

Dear Mr Williams,

Thank you for leaving a comment about your experience at The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust.

I am sorry you had such a long delay before your operation took place, my understanding is that the prioritisation of patients for surgery has to be repeated on the day based on whether emergency patients have been added to the list, the level of frailty of the patient, much of this only known on the day. My apologies that you were not aware of the facilities for families, we have several shops and a restaurant on site, including Costa Coffee and Slades Restaurant.

The nurses, doctors and administration of Surgery and Critical Care are always keen to identify ways of improving how we provide a better quality service and so we would be keen for you to contact us on 01279 82 72 11 or by emailing pals@pah.nhs.uk. We would be happy to have you come back and speak to the group in the unit so we can identify how to prevent a recurrence of your experience.
