Last year I paid for left eye cataract removal.
Last month I had right cataract removed at NHS Torbay hospital.
The difference in care was huge.
At Mount Stuart I waited 6+ hours in a cold cubicle with no refreshment offered and no explanation of the long delay..
After the op. I was sent home without the necessary medication because 'they had run out'.
I had to pay for this myself the following day.
My eye had problems during which I had to go to Torbay NHS for 3 scans which I was billed for.
So much for Mount Stuart promise of 'no hidden extras'
I did get them to pay the £120 for the NHS scans and the private prescription I'd had to pay for.
This though was a battle with lots of excuses and 'stonewalling'
Last month at Torbay NHS I was in and out in 3 hours.
The waiting area was bright and warm, tea and biscuits freely available.
After the operation I was given eye drops and antibiotics with full instructions.
I paid Mount Stuart £2,400 and NHS Torbay was Free.
The massive difference in care between the 2 hospitals carrying out the 2 same operations was startling..
Mount Stuart - uncaring and very poor - NHS Torbay - brilliant, caring and faultless.
Private hospitals are profitmaking business.
Having paid a hefty amount one expects superior care before, during and after an operation.
Mount Stuart failed on all counts
