"Infection control issue (GI Physiology Unit -..."

About: The Royal London Hospital

I started gagging during the oesophageal manometry procedure (tube through the nose and down to the throat). The procedure had to halted, so I could take 5 minutes time out, to compose myself.

The nurse was about to start the procedure again... when I noticed their dripping gloves and dripping tube. I asked them if they would be changing these to clean ones. The nurse 'reassured' me that no-one else had used that tube (completely missed the point I was making).

But I pointed to their gloves and the tube, and reminded them that they were dripping from the fluids that came out of my nose and mouth. I asked again 'Shouldn't you be changing the gloves and tube to clean ones, before you start again?' But they didn't think there was any need: 'because it is your own fluids on my gloves and the tube'. I looked at the doctor who was standing with them and observing, yet they didn't say anything either.

Really gross....

We're sorry your experience at the hospital wasn't to the usual high standard we strive for on a daily basis.
