"All in all a very satisfactory..."

About: Royal Lancaster Infirmary

What I liked

My aged mother was admitted to Ward 21 ( via MAU ) and subsequently transferred to Ward 22 for rehabilitation.

All the wards were very clean, well organised and quietly calm with friendly and helpful staff.

What could be improved

My mother felt that there could have been more communication with her as to the nature of her diagnosis and treatment.

As a visitor, it was difficult to find a member of staff who was familiar with her case.

Unfortunately, her mouth became sore while being spoon-fed on Ward 21 - this prevented her using her dentures but no treatment was given for this problem until a day or so before discharge.

Thank you for your comments. We have passed your message and concerns onto the teams involved who have stated they will feedback the issue you raised in Ward meetings and will encourage better communication. In addition ward staff are being encouraged to approach relatives to discuss care delivery at visiting times.

We place great value in the fact that local people continue to choose our hospitals and we openly encourage patients and visitors to give us their feedback. This will enable us to continually improve the services we offer and the experience our patients have whilst in our hospitals.

If you would like to be kept informed about developments at our hospitals, then please take a moment to sign up as a public member, you can do so via our website: http://www.mbht.nhs.uk/trust/how-to-become-a-member/
