"My daughter's surgery cancelled 5 times in a week"

About: St Peter's Hospital / Accident and emergency St Peter's Hospital / Trauma and orthopaedics

(as a service user),

My daughter had an accident on Monday and got a lump of mirror stuck deep in her leg.

A&E were so good and tried removing it under local anaesthetic but it was too deep, so she was admitted to have it removed under general anaesthetic that afternoon.

But it was then cancelled until Tuesday. Got a call Monday night saying it was all sorted for Tuesday and wait for call in the morning as it might have to be delayed until Wednesday. Well i got the call on Tuesday saying it had now been cancelled until Thursday.

So Thursday we report to the hospital, all paperwork is done she sees doctor and anaesthetist, all ready for theatre when it is cancelled again until Friday.

And exactly the same thing happens again today. I'm disgusted at the way she is being treated. She's only a child.

We are sorry to hear about your daughter's procedure being cancelled several times and appreciate how difficult this must be. Can you please contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service, if you haven't already done so, by calling 01932 723553. They will be able to go through the detail of your concerns and try to help.
