Last week I was admitted as an emergency when an infection caused my throat to swell up, leaving me unable to swallow and unable to breathe properly if I wasn't sitting upright.
Accident and emergency staff at the QEUH were brilliant: the triage nurse immediately recognised my condition and the doctor and the nurse (Julie) were very caring and quickly started me on iv treatment and admitted me to ward 11b. Having never really been ill in my 52 years, I felt incredibly vulnerable and scared and having such early, expert clinical assessment and treatment laced with some humour and personality really helped.
The staff on ward 11b ( Sarah, John and the junior doctor, Holly, and the team) were all superb and the consultant, Mr Houghton, and his team were excellent and I felt safe in their hands.
'Joe- the joker fae Yoker'- the health support worker ( I think) on the ward was a master of the Glasgow patter and both entertained and helped patients on the ward and certainly brought a smile to my face.
I am home recovering now and am very grateful for the care and expert attention of all the staff.
