"Car parking"

About: University Hospital Hairmyres

(as the patient),

Missed appointment for cancer follow up. Spent 20 minutes driving in and out every car park without a single space found. Several other cars all doing same. Drove into private housing scheme to try there. Cars everywhere, obviously other drivers had same idea as me. Had to give up on that plan, was so uptight by this time that I just ended up going home, so an important appointment missed.

I'm sorry you were unable to get a space this morning for your appointment at Hairmyres.

Would it be possible to get in touch with me so that I can help and ensure you have another appointment for your follow up? My number is 01236 712529 - I'm based in Monklands but will I be able to organise your next appointment.

I fully understand your frustrations about the parking. I am aware of steps being taken by the Site Director in Hairmyres to try and address the issues as there are problems with non-hospital staff and visitors parking on site. Im sure someone will be in touch regarding the car parking issues with you.

Dear Busman 2112,

I’m so sorry for the frustration and anxiety you experienced when trying to park at the hospital for your appointment.

This is really disappointing and frustrating for us. It is really important that you are reviewed by the right staff at the right time and I hope you will contact Margaret to re-arrange your appointment.

I’m sorry I’m not able to offer any guarantees that the parking situation will be improved in the short term. What I can tell you is that over the past few weeks we have been identifying and targeting people who use the hospital car park for accessing the Hairmyres train station.

We hope that this focussed effort will see benefits for our patients in the longer term whilst we consider other parking solutions. In the meantime, I’ll ask my Communications team to see if we can get something in the local press about the impact that commuters are having on people such as yourself by using the hospital as a train station car park.
