I ended up in A&E on a busy Monday night, and although the staff were almost running around like headless chickens, they were doing all that they could, and they apologised for the long wait.
When I arrived at 9:30pm, I was told I would be waiting 3-4 hours to be seen, which is what I expected. At 11:30pm however, the department was even busier than they had anticipated, and it was 6 hours before anyone was seen.
There were a few complaints from people who were simply frustrated at waiting, and although one of the nurses was doing their best to explain that they have to put the badly injured/dying people first, apparently that wasn't good enough. Sigh.
Yes it was horrid waiting 6 hours to be seen, but in the meantime I'd had an x-ray, been given medication, and was conscious and breathing so I wasn't a priority - which is kinda nice in a way.
When I was seen, the doctor was very friendly and professional, even though they were rushed off their feet. The staff at A&E were great, and there is not much more they could have done. They have my complete respect.
