"Not very pleasant and. totally disgusted"

About: Queen Elizabeth Hospital (Birmingham)

What I liked

As a visitor to the new hospital in some respects I would prefer the old one there has been given no thought to the distance you have to walk from parking your car which I also have to add there is not enough disabled parking at the front of the hospital some of which seemed to be always cordened off giving even less parking I found this difficult as I use a walking stick but the distance to the wards is unbelievable yes its a big hospital and a lot of wasted space but more thought should have been given to the visitors or is the idea to keep them away and leave the patients with no one to visit them. There is only one set of lifts at least the old hospital had more than four .I also think the staff medical and otherwise are not helpful at all.We was allowed to park our car in the renal space as we were picking our son up after being discharged( who is a renal patient anyway)but he was kept waiting for drugs to be dispensed for about five hours so we had a fine slapped on our car. Also our son was discharged after a week having had major surgery we asked for a wheelchair and porter to take him down to the reception area no such luck my husband had to push him all that distance and down in the lift to our car and he is only just getting over major surgery for bowel cancer by the way the porter took the wheelchair to the ward then went.I am so disgusted with the QE I am hoping my husband or my son does'nt have to go back in there.

What could be improved

Attitude of some of the staff and needs something doing about the total disorgonisation as it seems the left hand does'nt know what the right hands doing .and since when has family been responsible for getting discharged patients home as we were told

Anything else?

none

You can contact PALS by phone 0121 627 8820, by email PALS@uhb.nhs.uk, via the hospital website http://www.uhb.nhs.uk/Patients/Pals/Contact.aspx or in person by dropping in between 10am-4pm (Mon-Fri) to the PALS office located near the main entrance.
