"No Boobs made at Whiston - great care"

About: Whiston Hospital / Breast surgery

(as the patient),

Found lump under right arm - worried? - just a bit!

Rang GP's Surgery. Receptionist very helpful, appointment made for later that day. GP examined area and diagnosed localised infection, sure nothing to worry about - prescribed antibiotics and invited me to return when course completed. Completed course of antibiotics, swelling reduced greatly but could still feel 'something'.

Re-visited GP who was satisfied with the result but was sensitive to my ongoing concerns / anxiety and said she would organise an ultrasound scan. The appointment came through quickly for early October 2010 at Whiston Hospital.

On day, arrived at Whiston, comfortable in Waiting Area watching '60 Minutes Make Over' on TV provided. At precisely my appointment time I was called in to the Examination Room, a short walk down the corridor and greeted in a pleasant manner by both the doctor and others in the room.

The doctor explained the process and kept me informed throughout (very re-assuring) even to showing me the screen and translating the images on it into simple language (non-medical terms) then gave me the good news - it was nothing sinister just some thickening of tissue, which is what I could still feel. She informed me that the results would be with my GP in several days time. As I left the examination room I looked at my watch and it read 3.27pm - it took just 7 minutes - impressive!

A very positive experience from initial contact with GP practice to finish. My concerns were taken on board and not dismissed. I was treated with respect and courtesy throughout and more importantly - as a functioning human being - plus I got a wonderful outcome to boot. Thanks to all.
