"Could not fault the hospital or staff I..."

About: St George's Hospital (Tooting) (London)

What I liked

I was addmitted to the James Hope ward in the Atkinson Morley ward on Monday 22/11/2010 for cardiac ablation.

It was obvious from yhe outset that staff were really under pressure with a batch of new patients being addmitted, they were however totally calm and focused on what had to done. They also intsilled a calm atmosphere about the ward which from a patients perspective is vital. The proceedure was explained all the way through together with all the options. The care post proceedure was exeptional and of the highest oreder. All of the nursing staff in the James Hope ward were caring and very professional but as this was only a day ward I was transferred to the Belgrave ward late afternoon on Mondaye the 22/11/2010. I was totally unprepared for what happened in Belgrave ward. The verbal abuse that was aimed at the nursing staff by at least 1 patient was an absoulte disgrace, I could list the abuse but it would be unfair to shame tha family concerned as they obviously had no idea what was going on. The staff as far as I am concerned could not do enough for, they eevn came and appologised for what was going on. In my view the daytime staff were all of the very caring and professional. The night staff however recieved the brunt of the abuse how they stayed calm and professional I dont know, nobody should have to endure the type of verbal abuse that they did, but through out the night they were all very professional and caring I personally would like to thank them for the care and attention that I recieved during my stay. I think that sometimes the whole story is not told and that Hospitals and their staff only reach the headlines when something goes wrong but nothing is seen in print when the staff go way above and beyond what is expected. What happened on Monday I would hope for the staff sake was an isolated incident but I am not sure. I cannot praise enough the staff and their attitude and caring professionalism.

What could be improved

Nothing

Anything else?

I have nothing but praisev for the hiospital and all of the staff.

Thank you very much indeed for taking the time to post your kind comments. These will be forwarded to the staff members and management teams in the areas you have mentioned in Cardiovascular Services.
