"Oncology care"

About: Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - City Campus / Oncology

(as a relative),

I visited my sister on SRU at the weekend. SRU is what it is...patients waiting for a bed & the staff work so hard to provide excellent care in that environment. My sister is my concern. She is very vulnerable and doesn't like to make a fuss. She is waiting for both chest & abdominal drains as she has, for the 5th time, the last one being 2 weeks ago, filled with fluid. She is gasping for breath & can hardly move. I cannot understand why she has been left to 'fill up' again. She is terrified & therefore does not tell us or the doctors what's happening to her. I feel that her team should realise this & put measures in place-sending her home after draining her is no good because she fills up again at speed. If you ask her -she's ok. She is not-we are one worried family & are at our whits end.

Thank you for getting in touch. I’m sorry to read your concerns regarding your sister’s care. It would be helpful to have some additional information so I can speak to your sister on the ward. Would you be able to get in touch with me so we can discuss further? You can reach me on 0115 363 1169 ext. 57495 or claire.smith@nuh.nhs.uk.

Best wishes,

Claire Smith.

Ward Manager, SRU.
