What I liked
The midwife that took my daughter to theatre and brought her back again, she was helpful and friendly and made us feel confident and secure. Thank you. The student midwife who worked so hard to get everything done and to make sure that women in her care were attended to.
What could be improved
A midwife on the ward who came over as very unfriendly. The supervision by the consultant aneesthetist over an SHO who made several errors. Postnatal care, eg let the women who are bottle feeding use the kettle - they don't abandon their brains because they have had a baby and don't leave people in gowns etc. Make sure that women have decent post-op care if they have a c/s. Certain midwives need to improve their attitude. My daughter was very upset that, although assured by the consultant anaesthetist that she would definitely get pain relief on time, she had to wait for a long time after requesting it before it was given.
Anything else?
I trained as a midwife quite a few years ago, and I was very disappointed at the care my daughter received post-op and within the theatre setting given what was done not that long ago. Somee appeared to have quite a lackadaisical attitude. However, there are some excellent midwives and students there, but there are also some who need to realise that they are providing a service and that there is no need to speak to people as if they have just crawled out from under a stone (midwife). It appears to be a question of luck as to whether you will get someone who really cares, or someone who just wants to get the day over and go home. I was shocked how downhill this place has gone.
