After the birth of my first baby I suffered badly from post-natal depression. Although I'd come off citalopram tablets for depression when I became pregnant I unfortunately was never offered any perinatal services. Once I'd given birth I was told I couldn't access this as I'd already given birth. I was seen by a different health visitor each time and felt like nobody checked up to see how I was coping although I'd expressed to each that I was not doing very well. After 2 months with the GP support I started taking sertaline.
This time (my second baby was born 6 months ago) the scenario has been markedly different and I have felt extremely well supported and cared for. For 6 months prior to the birth I met regularly with the same wonderful and very experienced member of the perinatal team. She has continued to see me regularly for the past 6 months and has supported me through a second experience of postnatal depression.
I have been very impressed by the service this time around and the support given along with communication between service. I hope many other women receive the same care. Thank you.
"Very impressed with the service"
