"My son may be waiting a year for his operation"

About: Hywel Dda NHS Trust

(as a relative),

My son waited 6 months for an ENT appointment.

He was seen as an outpatient just within the target time. Although surgery will be undertaken by the consultant he saw in out-patients the actual surgery will take place in a hospital of a neighbouring LHB.

This means the target clock has started again and we understand the waiting time is around 6 months.

Whilst I appreciate the value of economics i.e. that not all LHBs can offer the same treatment facilities, it is very wrong that because we don't live in the right postcode area he effectively has to wait twice as long for treatment. That dosn't sound efficient or patient centred to me. It sounds target driven.

It could be a year from referral to treatment...I will keep you posted!
