"Repeat prescriptions"

About: Thurrock Health Centre

I recently changed to this surgery after moving. I wanted to transfer my previous repeat to this surgery but told not possible you must see a doctor. I asked to see a doctor was told not possible you must have health check first.

I had to wait some time for health check then even longer for an appointment. Eventually I got to see a doctor. Without much fuss they gave me exactly what I had before. I asked for repeat they said no problem.

Now my medication has run out I try to get my repeat but told it's not on repeat, even though I asked and was told it was. I asked over the phone can this be put on repeat so somebody can collect for me. Was told not possible you have to speak to a doctor. I explained I was out of the country for a while and and seeing or taking calls from the doctor was difficult. I said family would bring my medication. Not possible was again the reply.

No wonder the Health Service is in a mess. I take tablets for blood pressure and cholesterol as many do, you take them for the rest of your life keep seeing the doctor is just a waste of everyone's time.

Fortunately I am currently in a country that has a sensible health care system and essential medication like blood pressure and cholesterol do not need a prescription so i can buy them. But having paid into the NHS for nearly 50 years I thought they would treat me better and not force me to buy what I am entitled to.

I will be returning in a few months to UK and then will have to go through the nonsense of seeing a doctor again when really the doctor should be attending to sick people.

It's about time the UK dragged themselves into the 21st century instead of taking this high and mighty attitude that they are better than the rest of Europe because they don't even come close!

I was sorry to read your review and see that although a new patient you already feel unhappy with the service provided.

We do have a process for registration that does include a new patient health check and a face to face meeting with a GP or advanced nurse practitioner in relation to putting medication on a repeat template but we also look at an individual’s circumstances and you can also request, in writing, medication that has been prescribed to you previously even if it’s not on your repeat so I’m keen to discuss with you what went wrong in this instance.

You say that you’re out of the country for a few months so I would ask that when you return you come to see me and we can look at your experience and how we can help moving forward. Alternatively, if you email me your name and date of birth to our secure practice email, thuccg.thc@nhs.net I can look into your notes and see if the medication is now on your repeats and have it added if necessary and can liaise with you via email too.

Kind regards
