"Very rude Nurse"

About: St Clements Health Centre

I recently had an operation on my foot in Sept where I had bones broken, screws put in my foot and a pin in my toe which was very painful.

I went back to work the week before last and my foot was not too bad, painful but manageable.

However this changed last week and my foot became very swollen to such an extent that I couldn’t walk on it properly and had to go to A&E in Basildon Wednesday evening where they x-rayed it and took blood tests, eventually I was told I was going to be admitted and waited to se a Dr as they were worried as it was a recent operation.

Eventually in the early hours of the morning they were happy for me to go home and I was given a packet of Naproxen anti-inflammatory tabs, 2 pain killers and 3 anti-biotic tablets as they felt there might be an infection inside the foot which wasn’t visible.

As the pharmacy was then closed at 12.30 am I was told that I would have to pick up a prescription the next day at the hospital and collect from the pharmacy at Basildon Hospital.

I was told a nurse would ring me and tell me when it was ready.

As I wasn’t able to drive to get there and there was no-one else to take me, I rang the surgery and explained this to the receptionist, they said they would make me an appointment for Friday at 11 am to see the nurse who would be able to speak to the Dr and hopefully sort out the tablets for me.

I turned up at the surgery and saw the nurse.

This is what happened next.

As soon as I walked in they asked what I had came for, I explained as above which they couldn’t comprehend and kept on interrupting and didn’t seem to understand what I was saying as kept on saying that I didn’t need anti-biotics as I had been given a prescription by the hospital, no I hadn’t I had only come away with Naproxen and needed a prescription anti-biotics!

They kept on interrupting me and telling me it was only a month after my surgery, it was 2 September, by my time scale that is nearly 3 months, and not even giving me a chance to explain what had happened, in the end I said to them that if they would just let me explain again what had happened, they might then understand why I was there!

In their opinion, bearing in mind they are not a Dr, they then proceeded to say that as far as they were aware I didn’t need them as the hospital had given me 3 tablets already, why then had the hospital said I did and also said that I needed to take 3 tablets 3 times a day.

They didn’t examine my foot at all just merely gave it a cursory glance saying it wasn’t too bad now, I showed a photo of how it had been the day before and their reply was wear different shoes.

They then proceeded to tell me I needed Statins, which is the first I had heard of this as my cholesterol was high and started preaching about what I should and shouldn’t eat.

Their next comment, which I found highly offensive, was that we needed to treat my pregnancy, I am not indeed pregnant I am 55 years old and admittedly overweight which is something I am addressing.
